1.0 out of 5 stars Psychology & Theology - equals; opposites, August 22, 2008
By masterarchitect (Cedar Ridge, CA USA) - See all my reviews
What a farce this book is.
Christianity and Psychology are oxymorons. Psychology is the study of the Psyche; aka, the study of the sould. It was developed by MAN, not God, as a way to supplant God and HIS way of dealing with the soul.
You can deny this if you want, but for over 2000 years, psychology did NOT even exist ....... so what did man do? Did he just wander around aimlessly with his soul unknown; or did he have no problems of the soul that needed no treatment; or, did man all of the sudden develop all of these "disorders" needing treatment by self proclaimed doctors of the soul?
Man has ALWAYS had the problems that they have now. They are problems of sin. Oh, I'm sorry, I've just hurt the sensibilities of many people out there, I have judged them ...... no, God has judged all of us, but we don't want to hear about it. We just want to have "disorders" that we can pay some "professional" a bunch of money to make us feel better about ourselves. After all it is not our fault. We can't help ourselves.
Folks, theology can not, God can not, be mixed with man's wisdom, which in this case is psychology. God has told us, and proved to us time and again, that he and the Son He sent is sufficient for ALL THINGS OF LIFE ....... PERIOD.
Heed God's love and plan for ALL of us, IF you accept who and what He is.

5.0 out of 5 stars Don't Miss Out, September 4, 2006
By Raymond D. Anderson - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
Dr. Dan and Kate Montgomery plant their feet firmly in the soil of Trinitarian Christianity and out comes a model that is, from a theological viewpoint, rock solid. They show Jesus in humanity without compromising an ounce of Deity. How often have we told others to be 'like Jesus', but outside of praying, witnessing, fellowshipping, and reading more Scripture we felt a little clueless on how to lead people? Compass Psychotheology brings it home. If you want to grow and teach others to do the same, don't go another day without this book! Raymond D. Anderson, Ph.D., M.Th, LPCC, LADAC

5.0 out of 5 stars Gordon-Conwell Seminary Pastoral Psychology Review, December 31, 2007
By Compass Works - See all my reviews
"Fascinating. Concise. Pastoral counselors and therapists will find this book by Dan and Kate Montgomery a helpful and refreshing guide for looking at the task of helping people find wholeness. Compass Psychotheology presents a dynamic paradigm for understanding the human predicament, while at the same time outlining a strategy for intervention leading to growth.

This is a thoughtful study based on a strong commitment to the authority of Scripture with a recognition that a personal, redemptive, actualizing relationship with the Triune God is essential for wholeness."

Raymond F. Pendleton, Ph.D., Professor of Pastoral Psychology and Director of Clinical Counseling.
